The Wisconsin Badgers sent head coach Barry Alvarez out with a win improving his bowl record to 8-3. Alvarez is retiring to focus on being the schools athletic director. The game was never in question as the Badgers built up a 17-0 halftime lead before winning the Capital One Bowl over the Auburn Tigers 24-10. They dominated on both sides of the ball out gaining the Tigers 548-236 in yards.

The Badgers offense was impeccable as they torched the Auburn Tigers defense. Running back Brian Calhoun rushed for 213 yards and a touchdown, quarterback John Stocco threw for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns, and wide receiver Brandon Williams caught 6 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown.

Calhoun became the second player in division 1 history to have 1500+ yards rushing and 500+ yards receiving in a season. The only other player to accomplish this feat was Ryan Benjamin of Pacific in 1991.

The Auburn Tigers were led by quarterback Brandon Cox who completed 15/33 passes for 137 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception, and running back Kenny Irons who carried 22 times for 88 yards.

It was the first time all season that the Tigers were held scoreless in the first half. In a remarkable turn of events the usually porous Wisconsin defense was stifling and held the high powered Tigers offense in check all day. Coming into the game the Badgers defense was allowing 432.5 yards per game and the Auburn offense was averaging 437 yards per game, yet on Monday the Badger defense stiffened and held the Tigers to a mere 236 yards.

Auburn fought back in the second half kicking a 19 yard field goal on their opening drive and adding Courtney Taylor's 9 yard touchdown reception at the beginning of the fourth quarter to pull them to within 7 points, a 17-10 Wisconsin lead. However, that's as close as they would get as Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun put the proverbial nail in the coffin a minute and a half later when he answered with a 33 yard touchdown run sealing the victory for the Badgers.
