With the departures of senior starters Lee Foliaki and Archie McDaniel, as well as top reserve Renuel Green, Texas A&M will have only one proven linebacker returning in 2006, leading tackler Justin Warren. So, it's no secret that head coach Dennis Franchione and new defensive coordinator Gary Darnell are hot on the trail of some help at the position.

The news got better for the Aggies a couple weeks ago, when prized recruit Anthony Lewis from Halton chose Texas A&M over Oklahoma. Lewis is considered a top 100 high school player and one of the top three linebackers in the state.

The news has gotten even better for the Aggies, as they've received non-verbal commitments from junior college transfer Mark Dodge and another top 100 linebacker from Texas, DeMaurier Thompson. Thompson, out of W.T. White in Dallas, was said to be wavering on his choice after previous defensive coordinator Carl Torbush was fired, but seems to be a solid commit again.

But what could be the difference between a good and a great class will be when the consensus top LB in the state, Michael Morgan of Dallas Skyline, makes his final decision. He, like Lewis previously, looks to have narrowed his final two suitors as Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

He visited Norman on December 9th and plans to travel to College Station in the very near future. A handful of other schools are also on his list, but if it comes down to location, the Aggies have the inside track.
