West Virginia football coach Rich Rodriguez said Tuesday he wouldn't decide whether to start injured quarterback Pat White at Syracuse on Saturday until game time.

"If it's at noon on Saturday," Rodriguez told ESPN, "I'll decide at noon on Saturday."

White went out late in the second quarter of a 21-13 loss to South Florida last Friday when a helmet was planted on his thigh, leaving a deep bruise. Jarrett Brown came in and completed 11 of 20 passes for 149 yards, leading the Mountaineers to their only touchdown.

Commentary: This really isn't as difficult a decision for Rodriguez as he'd like us to believe. The Orange have been dreadful on defense (even in their upset of Louisville, they surrendered 555 passing yards to Brian Brohm), and Brown should be able to move his team up and down the Carrier Dome turf. There's no sense risking further injury to White -- just tell him it's a bye week.
