Colorado landed its first two commitments for the 2009 recruiting class Saturday in quarterback Jordan Wynn and receiver Jarrod Darden.

Darden, a 6-foot-4, 211-pounder from Central High School (Keller, Texas), caught 46 passes for 739 yards and 14 touchdowns last year as a junior. Listed as a three-star player by Scout, he chose the Buffaloes over Texas Tech, Houston, Missouri, Minnesota, North Carolina and Rice. Jeff Grimes and Eric Kiesau are credited as co-primaries.

Wynn, a 6-2, 185-pounder from Oceanside High (Oceanside, Calif.), completed over 58 percent of his 283 throws with 21 touchdowns against eight interceptions last year. Also a three-star player on Scout, he chose the Buffs over Utah, Iowa State and San Diego State. Mark Helfrich and Kent Riddle are credited as co-primaries.

COMMENTARY: Rather strange that a name program like Colorado is getting its first two commitments this late. Regardless, it appears Dan Hawkins’ bunch landed a solid quarterback and receiver, which is a good -- albeit late -- start.
