The Colts did without All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney most of last season. Moreover, Freeney and free safety Bob Sanders are likely to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list. Even worse for the Colts is that their quarterback is now damaged.

Indianapolis fans posting on the ColtFreaks message board now shift their concern to QB Peyton Manning's knee.

With Manning sidelined 4-6 weeks thanks to a surgical procedure to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee, Colts fans remain cautiously optimistic that their leader will be ready to go in Week 1 vs. Chicago.

One poster linked the report from the Indianapolis Star, and began preparing for the worst reactions.

"Please everyone calm down......."

With a couple of Jim Sorgi jokes thrown in, there was the requisite "let's sign Brett Favre" comment, tongue planted in cheek. Some blamed the Colts' medical staff for the timing of the injury.

"Why wait so late? After last season, I'm convinced this team's training/medical staff is utterly incompetent."

Manning has been sacked about the same amount of times Sorgi has. One of the most durable players in the game, Manning is second only to Favre in consecutive games played. It only seems natural that he would suffer some kind of injury by the time he enters his 11th season.

Along with Sanders, Freeney and now Manning, the Colts are still stinging from the loss of DT Anthony "Booger" McFarland. He injured his knee last season, and one poster says he knows why.

"I'll tell you a story - I know exactly how Booger received his season-ending injury in 2007, and I completely blame the team for it. I'm not sure what the technical name of the drill is, but it involves the DL swimming around three blocking pads and finishing by diving onto the equivalent of a third-grade gym mat. About elementary level padding, on top of the ground. Thing is - they dive off the spin move at a very awkward angle, and more than a few times, the DLman misses the mat completely and completes his dive smack into the ground.

"I didn't actually see Booger get hurt, but I know it was the same drill. Dove, hit the ground funny and that was that. If I see that drill set up again this summer, I'm going to march on the field - risking arrest - and dismantle the damn equipment myself."
