Indianapolis Colts All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney was unable to pass the team's physical while attempting to recover from off-season surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The NFL's sack leader in 2004, Freeney was one of six Colts placed on the team's physically unable to perform list. It was especially impressive that he was able to lead the league in sacks, considering the fact that his shoulder was injured for much of last season.

According to Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy, Dwight Freeney's rehab is coming along ahead of schedule. He will be held out of practice until at least August 9th, when the team returns from its first pre-season game against the Atlanta Falcons in Tokyo, Japan. Since he was placed on the unable to perform list, he will only be allowed to rejoin practice upon being cleared by a team physician.

Dwight Freeney remains optimistic, noting that this is basically a precautionary measure. Until he can begin working alongside teammates on the practice field, Freeney will be working with team trainers and the strength coach in preparation for his next physical.
