The Cowboys signed CB Terence Newman to a six-year, $50.2 million extension Tuesday, with $22.5 guaranteed over the first three years.

The deal came in wake of the owners' decision to opt out of the current labor agreement they have with the NFL Players' Association. Contracts signed after 3 p.m. Tuesday will have a different set of rules and ramifications for both the teams and the players.

Newman made his first Pro Bowl last season after getting four interceptions and making 44 tackles.

Commentary: Lock-down corners aren't very common, but Newman showed he can be considered in that category. He was asked to handle a large chunk of coverage responsibility in a tough conference for opposing secondaries. Expectations are as high as ever in Dallas, and nothing short of a Super Bowl will satisfy Jerry Jones or Cowboys fans.

Fantasy Impact: Newman missed the first three games of his career last season, which limited his return opportunities. While it isn't likely he will be be on special teams as much as he was in the early part of his career, he still makes a good defense better, and he could lead to a top-five fantasy finish.
