Cowboy Nation: The Tony Romo “Interview”

The new Tony Romo was kind enough to share some time with the Nation before the 2:15 practice. The interview took place in the veterans locker at the Alamo Dome on Tuesday the 11th. My assistant Jimmy was at hand with his trusty boom box recorder, because the Nation can't afford a personal one. For those of you paying attention, Jimmy is a volunteer. Here is the transcripts of that interview.


David Salinas: Hi Tony, thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us at Cowboy Nation.

Tony Romo: Hey no problem, anything for the Cowboy Nation.

DS: First off let me thank you for you re-dedication to the team, by dropping Jessica. I know you took a hit for that and I just want to acknowledge it for all it's worth. You know the fans were hard on her and blamed her for much of the lack of success that you had. Plus I'm sure you had a good thing going, and it must have been an undertaking to break off such an important relationship like that.

TR: No, not really.

DS: What do you mean?

TR: Ok, I know this is going to sound crass....well, she was getting fat. My whole view was to drop her like John Mayer did, but my publicist said that the timing was pretty bad, since all the fat photos were making the rags, and it looked good on me that I was standing behind her. Though you couldn't see me standing behind her, believe me.

DS: So you broke up with her the day before her birthday, how was that better?

TR: Well, it wasn't but, what are you going to do, She wanted a Ken and Barbie birthday party, and I wasn't putting on that fake Ken cog piece for no one.

DS: Fair enough, Now Tony, I wanted to ask you about this TR thing. From what I understand there is an alter ego growing out of that cap.

TR: Well, I never really talk about it, but since it's for the Nation, and I feel pretty comfortable with you, I'll fill you in. Tony Romo is the guy that plays QB for the Dallas Cowboys, but TR is the guy who has fun. When I'm not working or out at charities, I allow myself to fun, cause as you know, life is short.

DS: I hear you, but what does it have to do with the cap?

TR: Well, when I'm wearing my cap like this, (Tony shows his cap pointing forward, normal.) I'm Tony Romo, but when I turn it around, something changes in me, I become something else. I become TR!

DS: Nice. You become TR. And there's nothing douchie about it, really. What happens when TR gets on the football field?

TR: Well, he can't, because the cap is on the sidelines, you know, I have to wear a helmet. That sorta defeats the TR rules so to speak. But when I throw an interception, I can get to the sidelines and put on my cap, turn it around, and bam! Full TR.

DS: Ok, let's move on, TO, you're other girlfriend is gone. I'm sure you're tired of hearing about it, but what will a productive player like TO accomplish with a team like the Bills?

TR: I'll be honest with you, I have no idea. I have no idea because I am simply trying to work with the team I have. TO is gone, and I wish him well. He is still a friend as far as I'm concerned. But I don't have the luxury to check up on him, that's your job.

DS: Good answer. Actually I've been watching the TO show, and all I can say is that guy cries more than a little girl with pig-tails. I sometime picture him with a girly dress and blond pig-tails, but that's because he cries so damn much on his show. Waah. A gorgeous girl wants to marry me, and I don't know what to do.....waaah.

TR: You said it. Not me.

DS: I did say it. TO is the enemy now. Speaking of which, how is the team doing Tony?

TR: Well, we're taking it one day at a time. We want to compete, we want to get out there and work on execution. You know, it's fun to get out there and compete. And at this point we are exactly where we want to be.

DS: What do you say about people out there that say the offense is looking pretty weak. That the defense is several steps ahead of you guys, and they are whipping you guys on a daily basis?

TR: Well, I think.....

DS: Shut up! Just shut up the (BLEEP) up Tony!

TR: What?

DS: Just shut it! Sit there, turn your damn hat back around and keep your mouth shut! I want you to listen to this....Jimmy....play 212.

Audio: "I wake up tomorrow and keep living. You don't [deal with it]. You just keep playing the game. It's a fun game, and it's enjoyable. We're going to try to win next year. We're going to try to get back in the playoffs, and we're going to try to win a Super Bowl.
"If you don't, OK. If you do, OK. Then you're really a great player. If you don't, you're just a solid, good player, and I'll have to deal with that, not you guys. That's just part of the job.
"I've had a lot worse things happen to me than a loss in a sporting event, that's for sure. If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, then I'll have lived a pretty good life."

DS: Yeah....you hear that!? Wroooooong! Thanks Bull(bleep)! And I'm not going to sit here and let you start the regular season letting that be your statement an.....where are you going? Sit the (bleep) down! SIT DOWN AND YOU LISTEN! SIT....good..(Jimmy, who is 6'7" and 350lbs holds TR down)....that's better. You are not going to ever say anything remotely close to that ever again, do you understand!?!

TR: Yes sir.

DS: Okay then, what you should have said is this.....Jimmy!

Audio: We had some turnovers that changed the momentum, then we tried to get things going, but it wasn't enough. They got after the ball and they won this game. We lost a little bit of our swagger, and they beat us to it, I'm extremely disappointed. You have to give the eagles credit, they kept fighting, but that was a game we could have won, we should have won. We have to make smarter, better plays, and it's just frustrating. I want it to stay in our hearts, and keep hurting, um because this will motivate me um personally, and i believe everybody else, the coaches the rest of the players, to never let something like this happen again. Especially if we feel we are the better team and we don't play to our ability. And um, i just wanna say one thing to our fans and everybody, Cowboy Nation, I'm sorry, extremely sorry. But I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this, you will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play next season, never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody next season, you will never see a team play harder than we will play next season, God bless. DS: That was Tim Tebow. Obviously we changed a few words in there, But that was a leader! This is what you say! This is what you feel, understand? Did you hear that guy, he has fire, and you believed every word that came out of his mouth. And he did it! This is what you have to believe if you are ever going to rise above Aikman, Staubach. Otherwise you might as well be Quincy Carter, get it?

TR: Yes sir, I do. And I just want to say thank you for showing me the light.

DS: Your welcome Tony, now take this tape and learn how to be a REAL leader. Jimmy give him the tape. Now get your ass out there and win me a Super Bowl.

TR: Yes sir, Mr. Salinas sir. You want my cap?

DS: No.
