One step closer to a new stadium in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys have taken the next logical step towards replacing Dallas Stadium. They named Oklahoma-based Manhattan Construction as the lead contractor for the proposed stadium in Arlington.

Based out of Tulsa, Manhattan will work with local minority-owned firms Rayco Construction and 3i Construction on the project. Manhattan got the contract, in part, because of their success with the Reliant Stadium project in Houston. The Texans' stadium is the first NFL stadium to include a retractable roof.

Team officials hope to have the new stadium built and ready to inhabit by 2009. The estimated cost is expected to approach $1 billion.

COWBOYS ADD PALMER TO STAFF

Earlier this week the Dallas Cowboys announced the hiring of quarterbacks' coach Chris Palmer. After a somewhat dissappointing stint with the Houston Texans from 2002-2005 as their offensive coordinator, Palmer is happy to be reunited with Bill Parcells. He coached under Parcells in New England and is credited with developing Drew Bledsoe into a Pro Bowl quarterback.
