America's team: Love 'em or hate 'em, this year, we're going to be watching them. Of all the mysteries awaiting us in NFL season 2006, some of the most compelling story lines are sure to unfold in Dallas. Here are some subplots within that weekly soap opera known as "Dallas" for you to consider...

• It's a do-or-die year. Sure, no one (read: Jerry Jones) has explicitly stated such, but there is a feeling surrounding the Dallas Cowboys that results are needed this season to maintain the Tuna's standing. Year 2004 was a 6-10 washout with Vinterception Testaverde at QB, and 2005 saw the 9-7 Cowboys lose at least twice directly due to late-game coaching decisions (week two against Washington and week seven at Seattle).

• Should the Cowboys repeat their tendencies of last year, they'll be the heart attack team of the NFL, making for some nice last-minute gasping for breath and at very least excellent highlight clips. The 'Pokes were involved in eleven games that were decided by a touchdown or less and were easily the wackiest, most unpredictable team on the NFL scoreboard. Can the new veteran additions stabilize the team at crunch time?

• On the subject of those additions, the souped up Cowboys will be intriguingly matched against several teams that improved through youth. Most notable here are division mates the Eagles, who come away from an excellent draft with a suddenly youthful team reborn from a disastrous 2006. Those games will provide lots of material for that oldie but goodie argument of supplementing through free agency or through the draft, should the media hype get beyond that receiver the Cowboys picked up.

• Philadelphia at Dallas on Christmas! Improved Dallas and Philadelphia squads will join last year's playoff entries Washington and New York to once again make the NFC East the tightest division in football. It's certain to be neck and neck this year - real nail-biting, TV-staring stuff. It all culminates in the December 25th matchup between the division rivals in the Lone Star State. This game might well determine the shape of the NFC playoffs, making for a wonderful gift for football freaks. Ho ho ho!

• Terrell Owens. Love him or hate him ... you gotta love him. Call him a gamebreaker, a playmaker, the NFL's version of Kobe Bryant, or simply call him great, T.O. is always worth a look. Throw in a healthy dose of the vengeance factor, and a guy like this is capable of whipping off some one-man highlight reels. With the spicing of T.O., these Dallas Cowboys just might make for some classic games in 2006. Keep an eye out...
