Dallas Cowboys training camp is nearly over, making this a perfect time for a progress report.

The good:

Tony Romo played well enough against the Seahawks to secure the backup quarterback job but according to Bill Parcells, he still needs to be "coached all the way through the game." Coming from Parcells, this is a ringing endorsement.

Also according to Parcells, not only will fifth-rounder Pat Watkins be a "superior" special teams player, but he will compete for the starting free safety spot.

Tuna has been gushing about the offensive line play of Cory Procter.

Seventh-round pick Pat McQuistan has been a pleasant surprise at left tackle.

The bad::

Flozell Adams is having a lot of trouble recuperating from last year's knee injury. You have to wonder whether he will make a full enough recovery to be effective this year.

It appears Rob Petitti's offseason improvement was overblown. While Parcells says he's in much better physical shape than last year, he "struggles technically from time to time." Translation: He can't block.

I'm starting to wonder if Mike Vanderjagt is more injured than he's letting on.

How bad has it gotten for Drew Henson? Not only did he lose all of his practice reps to free agent Matt Baker, but Tuna took 30 minutes of his busy day to psychoanalyze him.

I don't care what he said. If you don't think Parcells was fuming about the Terrell Owens situation, you don't know the 64-year-old very well. When asked whether Owens would be practicing day after day, all Parcells could muster was a terse, "I don't know." Obviously, that tells you all you need to know about what kind of foot this relationship has gotten off on.

Playing for a job:

With the receiver situation so dire, the opportunity for Sam Hurd to claim a job is there for the taking; however, he dropped two of six balls thrown his way against the Seahawks.

It was assumed that Al Johnson would be the starting center this year. But so far he has been outplayed by Andre Gurode.

Parcells says he's going to give Skyler Green "every chance to make this team." However, he was clearly not pleased with Green's east-to-west approach on his first punt return versus Seattle. Parcells commented that Green "was wearing a skirt on that one."
