Isn't it funny how it isn't any fun any more for the Dallas Cowboys? All the interviews, the pack leaning on your every word, the headlines dressed in your initials or nickname ... all those ego perks that come with having the greatest job in the world for the franchise brazenly self-branded as "America's Team."

Lapping up the love of the camera and bantering with media is fun while you're winning, but the Cowboys aren't.

However, like any other coverage of the subject, 'Pokes quotes have been given much play on RealFootball365, because sometimes a well-placed quote is worth a thousand pictures. (After all, no insight into the patient's psychological makeup is gained by looking at a CAT scan.)

These Cowboys are flat, they are backpedaling into the playoffs, they may be dead in the water. And they've got the quotes to show it.

"This is about as tough as it can get." Parcells began the post-game press conference this way, concluding a season's worth of press conferences that he has seemingly enjoyed about as much as, say, coaching this team. What's the over/under on days after the Seattle Seahawks game that Parcells quits?

"'Boys not finished yet" ran the headline of Clarence E. Hill Jr.'s piece in Wednesday's Fort Worth Star-Telegram. No, Mr. Hill, but very soon you'll be able to turn your full attention to the Mavericks.

"It's puzzling that we don't have all the answers. But I am happy we are in [the playoffs]. You never know what is going to happen." That's CB Aaron Glenn, quoted from the post-game in the Star-Telegram.

Isn't it sad when the Cowboys' hearts aren't in these quotes and they live or die by the jockspeak cliché? In response to Glenn, wellllll, we kinda know what's going to happen.

What about The Player himself, The Monogrammed One, Mr. Quotable? What did the Worldwide Leader in [American] Sports run from T.O.?

"We had too many turnovers despite me getting the ball early."

He sounded more like a bored dude who needs a vacation, his mind far far away from the media and even further from, um, what was that thing called, oh yes, football.

And Parcells said "I can't tell you how disappointed I am," and Tony Romo said "I just think I need to be more careful once in a while," and Parcells said "I am not apologizing for being in the playoffs," and Terrell Owens said "Tch, I don't know" when asked something or another, probably simply "Why?"

Finally, it ends with Tony Romo. "You never know," he's gamely said more than once since the loss to the Detroit Lions.

Never say never, Tony. We'll know soon enough.
