Late Monday, as Jason Taylor danced with the stars on ABC, the Miami Dolphins completed a deal that moved the perennial Pro Bowler to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a second-round pick.

While many diehard fans are disappointed that Taylor will not retire as a member of the Dolphins, even though most staunch critics of this move will eventually acknowledge that this move was a win-win for all parties.

The Dolphins get another first-day pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and can continue building a new young core of talent. The Jaguars put themselves one step closer to challenging for a Super Bowl title. And most importantly, Taylor will finally get a chance to play for a legitimate championship contender.

Taylor still needs to pass his physical in order to consummate the deal, but if last night's dance performance is any indication, he should have no problems getting a passing grade.

Still, it's going to be strange seeing Jason Taylor suiting up in a different uniform, and the Dolphins will struggle to replace the consistent production that Taylor has provided over the past decade. On the flipside, Taylor's exit will facilitate the transition to a true 3-4 defense. It's not so much that Taylor isn't capable of transitioning into a new role, but the simple truth is that he is not prototypical linebacker for this defensive alignment.

In any case, there will be plenty of time this offseason to discuss the intricacies and implications of this somewhat radical move, but one thing is clear; there is a truly a new era of Miami Dolphins football on the horizon.

P.S. I wonder why big news always seems to break on April 1st? Go figure.
