On Monday, the Miami Dolphins traded linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo to the Chicago Bears for tight end John Owens and a conditional draft pick. The trade is contingent on both players passing their physicals.

After being claimed off waivers last October from the Detroit Lions, the 6-3, 255 pound Owens appeared in just two games for the Bears and recorded no catches.

Brendon Ayanbadejo led the Miami Dolphins' special teams in tackles each of past two seasons. The 6-1, 228-pounder started two games at linebacker last year and finished the season with 20 tackles and an interception. Ayanbadejo has had some difficulties adjusting to new head coach Nick Saban's defensive scheme. With the depth at the linebacker position, Saban felt the team and Ayanbadejo needed to part ways.

With the signing of Owens, tight end Donald Lee could be on his way out. Lee has fallen behind Lorenzo Diamond on the depth chart mainly because of inconsistent play.
