In a surprise move today, the Miami Dolphins released tight end/long snapper Ed Perry. Perry, who had been with the Dolphins since 1997, is the NFL's last remaining active player to catch a touchdown from Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino.

Ed Perry's release was surprising because he was given a $300,000 signing bonus this off-season as part of a five-year $3.615 million contract. It surprised most of his teammates as well, who thought that Perry was lock to make the team. Throughout his career, Perry has been known as one of the most consistent long snappers in the league. But in the new Saban-era, most players understand that nobody is a lock.

In all the Miami Dolphins released 10 players and placed four other players on injured reserve. Those players released along with Perry were QB Brock Berlin, WR Josh Davis, RB Kay-Jay Harris, WR Danny Farmer, LB Corey Jenkins, CB Billy Parker, DE Chris Solomona, T Orrin Thompson, and CB Ray Green. The four players put on injured reserve were CB Will Poole, DT Larry Chester, WR Kendall Newson, and CB Shirdonya Mitchell.
