"Who's going to manage the game to give us a chance to win? Sage looked like he had some command out there. He has continued to do a good job every time he has been given an opportunity. Those are factors that need to be taken into consideration." - Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban after their last exhibition game of 2005.

It's a fact that Sage Rosenfels has outplayed all other Dolphins quarterbacks the last 3 preseasons. Granted, he competed mostly against 3rd teamers; by the same token, Sage was also surrounded by inferior talent. To make a relevant comparison, I still remember to this day how WR Oronde Gadsden succeeded in the 1998 preseason playing among the scrubs. He eventually succeeded as a starter in the NFL when given a chance.

While others (Jay Fiedler, Brian Griese, AJ Feeley, and now Gus Frerotte) were consistently inconsistent, they at least got the opportunity to start for Miami because of their pedigrees. In his 5th season out of Iowa State and 4th with the Dolphins, Rosenfels' only professional start came during the final game of 2004 season as a result of mounting injuries. He threw a 76 yard touchdown on his first throw, along with 3 interceptions the rest of the game. Mind you, Sage had to go against the formidable Baltimore Ravens defense on the road. Too bad he didn't get more opportunities to showcase his talents and learn on the job during last year's 4-12 season, especially when Feeley continued to struggle through injuries.

Dolphins fans can only hope that Coach Saban takes the path less travelled and truly discovers what some of our younger players have to offer in this rebuilding season. It's time to give Sage Rosenfels a chance.
