Rosenfels just a play away

The prevailing logic is that the backup quarterback is only one play away from being the starter. For the first time since joining the Miami Dolphins, Sage Rosenfels will be in that position; just one play away.

Nobody is wishing harm upon the current starter, Gus Frerotte. He has "earned" the starting position because of his pre-existing grasp of the offensive system and because thus far - despite his lack of production - he has avoided the costly interceptions that have plagued former starter Jay Fiedler and current clipboard holder A.J. Feeley.

The big news here is that after years of languishing in the #3 quarterback role, with absolutely no shot at significant playing time, Sage Rosenfels will finally be in a position to possibly contribute to the fortunes (or misfortunes) of the Miami Dolphins. It took a new head coach to finally figure out that if you have a guy on your roster, you can't simply dismiss him based on the perceived pedigree of the guys in front of him or because of hard headed commitments to the first and second string guys.

Nick Saban recognized that at the very least, Sage Rosenfels has shown more poise and potential than A.J. Feeley. He has put Rosenfels in a position to assume the starting role if Frerotte gets injured, or if he simply falls flat on his face.

Good for Nick Saban for having the guts to make a move that his predecessors wouldn't even consider. More importantly though, good for Sage Rosenfels. If you get the shot, give it all you've got kid. I know you will.
