Beckup quarterback?  Don’t think so …

One of the primary questions surrounding the Miami Dolphins this offseason revolves around their current quarterback situation. In fact, despite the Jason Taylor soap opera, QB is probably the most discussed issue about the team. Everyone knows the candidates: John Beck, Josh McCown and Chad Henne.

So the question is: Which QB is the most logical choice?

Barring some miraculously great camp performance by either McCown or Henne, the logical choice seems to be Beck. Why? Well, I'll explain.

Exhibit A: Experience factor.

Obviously, judging on simply experience alone, McCown would take the job. Unfortunately, McCown’s NFL career has been less than stellar, as he has thrown only 35 TDs against 40 INTs. While McCown has shown some flashes of brilliance, he can’t seem to piece it all together and consistently turn in solid performances. And he had Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to work with in Arizona. So it’s hard to blame his lack of production there on anyone else but him. Simply put, after a seven-year career, you just don’t know what you are going to get from McCown; if that’s the case, you may as well hedge your bets on a younger player who, at worst, would give similar types of performances.

So obviously, Beck wins this category by default. Sure, he has only five games and four starts under his belt, but he’s only two years younger than McCown, and Henne is a mere rookie.

Exhibit B: The lack of convicting evidence of failure.

As noted above, everyone is aware of exactly what McCown brings to the table -- outstanding physical skills and continuous mental lapses. When it seems McCown gets his game going, something seems to prohibit that progress. History shows that he just can’t get it done.

So now you have a battle between two young thoroughbreds. Neither has built an NFL body of work to surmount any sort of case against. (In Henne’s case, he’s got nothing, not even a preseason game.) But that could be the tidbit of damning evidence for him. Beck has at least experienced the speed of the NFL and will have a year in the system and the league to adjust.

Again, hands down, it’s Beck.

Exhibit C: Hairstyles
Chad Henne haircut.

Josh McCown haircut.

John Beck haircut.

Henne looks more like a mean, tough linebacker in that picture. Yet this is probably more accurate: Chad Henne falling. Clearly, his haircut is little more than a cover up for this tender, clumsy quarterback.

Now, in McCown’s case, that haircut is pretty awesome (in 1998, anyway). I’m not really sure what’s going on with it. It serves as the perfect metaphor for his playing career: Strange.

And then we have Beck, whose Caesar-style cut makes him look the most normal. There’s just something quarterback-like about that hairdo. Honestly, he just looks the part.

There you have it again; it’s Beck.

He’s John Beck. He’s where it’s at. He doesn’t have two turn tables and a microphone, but, quite simply, he is the only logical choice at QB for the Dolphins this year.
