It was a triumphant NFL debut for head coach Nick Saban as the Miami Dolphins blew out a winded Denver Broncos squad in the second half by a score of 34-10. The Dolphins were led by a stout defensive effort that saw the Broncos score only 1 touchdown through 60 minutes. DE Jason Taylor matched that total by scoring an 85 yard TD on a sack, forced fumble and fumble recovery to end the game.

On offense, QB Gus Frerotte had a solid outing. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 275 yards, with 2 TDs but 1 interception. Ronnie Brown was a workhorse in his pro NFL game, rushing for 57 yards on 22 tough carries. 8 different Dolphins had receptions, but no one had a bigger game than wideout Marty Booker. He finished with 5 receptions for 104 yards, including a 60 yard bomb from Frerotte on the last drive of the game.

The Dolphins allowed only 70 rushing yards to the usually-productive Broncos running attack. The linebacking corps of Junior Seau, Zach Thomas, and Channing Crowder were all over the field making tackles. The secondary also did their part, frustrating QB Jake Plummer into completing less than 50% of his passes and throwing 2 interceptions.

Next week, Miami travels to the Meadowlands to face the New York Jets. The Jets were trounced today by the Kansas City Chiefs 27-7 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Jets were letdown by the play of QB Chad Pennington, who fumbled six times while throwing 2 INTs.
