Quincy Carter, where have you been? Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells, Carter's former coach in Dallas, sure knows.

Truth is, Carter played for the Kansas City Brigade this past Arena League Football season. He even signed a two-year extension just six weeks ago.

Carter appears uninterested in continuing with former Chiefs defensive end Neil Smith's Brigade, and is in Dolphins camp looking for a shot to make rookie head coach Tony Sparano's squad.

He doesn't seem to be getting all that warm of a reception.

On Fin Heaven, a Dolphins message board, posters have weighed in quickly on the news that Carter worked out with the team July 31. One fan didn't want to believe it.

"It is just a rumor...I hope."

Carter hasn't seen any NFL action since 2004, and was released by Montreal of the Canadian Football League in 2006. So why is he back? Parcells has an affinity for bringing in those with whom he's previously worked (see: Tony Sparano and Terry Glenn).

One poster had a different theory on why Carter is getting a look.

"Carter's agent was owed a favor by someone. Carter's been working on getting a look see by any NFL team just hoping he can pull 3rd stringer duty. He's useless."

Perhaps Carter is just a fresh arm, brought in to rest the wings of a heated three-QB battle in Miami among John Beck, Chad Henne and Josh McCown. Fins Heaven isn't particularly sold on any of those options, though.

"Maybe Becks new throwing motion will click and he will start making better, quicker decisions. Maybe Henne will be a natural, like our previous 2 rookie quarterbacks that started their first season. Or Maybe McCown’s experience will help settle him down and actually be someone."
