Whether it's a comment on a lack of trust with their current quarterbacks remains to be seen, but the Miami Dolphins signed former Jets QB Chad Pennington to a two-year, $11.5 million deal late Friday.

The Jets released Pennington on Thursday after the team announced it had traded for ex-Packers signal-caller Brett Favre. Former Jets head coach Bill Parcells, now the vice president of football operations in Miami, drafted Pennington with the 18th overall pick in 2000.

Commentary: A team isn't going to pay a backup that much money going into a season. Apparently, the Dolphins aren't interested in letting veteran Josh McCown, second-year man John Beck or rookie Chad Henne end up as the starter.

Fantasy Impact: Pennington's weak arm won't inspire teams to stand off the line more than 10 yards; therefore, unless he can hit a few deep passes (something he really hasn't be able to do, as evidenced by his meager three aerial plays over 40 yards last season), teams are going to crowd the box to take away any short passing hopes. Pennington is a fantasy backup at best.
