The analyst who broadcast Miami's preseason game with the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend liked what he saw from newly acquired quarterback Chad Pennington -- who got his first game action since signing with the Dolphins earlier this month.

Why is it so significant that Pennington impressed said analyst? Because he is one of the Dolphins’ greatest all-time players, a Hall of Fame quarterback who led Miami to some of its best seasons ever.

“I liked everything I saw about Chad’s performance tonight. He moved the ball well and put some points on the board," said Bob Griese, who helped call the game for the NFL Network.

Griese’s praise followed Miami’s 19-14 victory over Jacksonville and Pennington’s 5-for-6 performance.

Pennington looked comfortable running Miami’s offense, and his pinpoint passing helped the Dolphins jump out to a 10-0 lead.

Griese pointed out that Pennington is now holding the football higher and has a more traditional release than he did previously, when he was quarterbacking the Jets. Griese also said that Pennington’s improved mechanics should help him avoid shoulder problems that have plagued him in the past.

It turned out to be Chad squared for the Dolphins in their win, with rookie Chad Henne following Pennington and completing 17-for-26 throws for 133 yards. Henne helped lead the Dolphins to three field goals from rookie kicker Dan Carpenter, who hit all four of his attempts (with a long of 46 yards).

Miami’s defense backed the team’s quarterback play with a solid game against Jacksonville’s offense, holding the Jaguars to 42 total yards and a pair of late touchdowns.

The Dolphins hope to continue their improvement Aug. 26 when they host the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Playbook: An entirely new kind of fantasy game!
