On Monday, the Miami Dolphins released an updated depth chart which included a flip-flop at the free safety position. Chris Crocker occupied the starting slot with Jason Allen slated as the backup.

Commentary: Though Crocker was given reps with the first team during last week’s practice sessions, and was designated as the starter against the Chiefs, it was Allen who made his presence felt. The third-year man came down with an interception and generally stuck his head in and around the ball carrier. Crocker was more or less a nonentity, and appeared to be beaten by Dwayne Bowe on a deep throw that fell incomplete.

Head coach Tony Sparano has already intimated that the competition between Allen and Crocker is still open and that the coaching staff plans on using Allen in a variety of alignments. If anything, this “demotion” is likely little more than a psychological ploy to ignite Allen’s competitive flame. Expect to see plenty of the former first-rounder when the games begin to count.

Fan Pulse: Dolphin die-hards had plenty to say about this roster change. Some good, some really, really bad.

Fantasy Football Impact: Regardless of who starts at free safety, and in spite of Ted Ginn Jr.'s return talent, the Dolphins are still not a legitimate fantasy 'DST' at this point.

Injury Watch: Thanks to recurring back pain, Joey Porter will be shelved until next week. Charlie Anderson and Ronnie Brown are both slated to return to action against the New Orleans Saints.

Training Camp: An entirely new kind of fantasy game!
