The comparisons were inevitable, but now, only two weeks into the season, folks are already starting to pass down judgment on whether Cadillac Williams or Ronnie Brown is the better back. The early judgment isn't good for fans of the Miami Dolphins. However, one must be cautious to avoid hasty conclusions.

Just two weeks into the regular season, Cadillac Williams has been crowned as the rookie of the year while Ronnie Brown has been virtually declared a bust. Now I'll admit that Williams has looked fantastic, especially in his most recent game against a Buffalo Bills defense that is supposed to be one of the best in the league. At the same time, Brown has given very few indications that he is the kind of special back that merits the second overall pick in the NFL draft.

These early season performances can be misleading. The true measure of a running back will be his production over the course of years, not weeks. I guess what I'm saying is that Miami Dolphins need to give Ronnie Brown a chance. Instead of comparing him to his former college running mate who runs behind a different line on a team with a different offensive philosophy, just compare his performances from week to week and don't be too quick to dismiss him as a disappointment.

Besides, Ricky is coming back in two weeks!
