The Miami Dolphins have been quite active this offseason, already making several transactions. Two of their new players, safety Gibril Wilson and center Jake Grove, were plucked from Oakland. Both acquisitions immediately upgrade the Dolphins, further improving a team that experienced significant progress a year ago en route to an 11-5 record and AFC East title.

Grove, a center, spent five seasons in Oakland; his addition will allow Samson Satele -- a two-year veteran with talent -- to move back to guard. Meanwhile, Wilson will team up with Yeremiah Bell to supply the Dolphins’ defense with a formidable tandem at safety.

Miami also made headlines with the release of veteran defensive end Vonnie Holliday, a team captain who voiced his displeasure with the Dolphins’ front office. Holliday wanted to stay in Miami but was let go because of a $1.5 million roster bonus that he would have collected. While the move may have been in the best interest of the Dolphins, the business aspect of the NFL was certainly exposed.

Linebacker Channing Crowder was allowed to test the market, but there was always a good chance he’d return to South Florida. After finding no suitors in the early free-agency period, Crowder re-signed with Miami. The Dolphins wanted him back all along, but only for a fair price. That strategy paid off and they were able to bring Crowder back at a reasonable cost.

After an incredibly successful 2008 season, Bill Parcells and company are picking up right where they left off. If things continue at this rate, Dolphins fans can expect much of the same success over the next several years.
