It's always nice to move into first place in your division on your bye week. That's exactly what the Miami Dolphins did yesterday as they watched all three of their divisional rivals fall. The offensively anemic Jets fell 13-3 to the Ravens, the hapless Buffalo Bills fell to the New Orleans Saints 19-7, and the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots were obliterated 41-17 by the Chargers.

These losses put the Miami Dolphins alone atop the AFC East division. At this point, the Dolphins are the only team with a winning record. New England is 2-2 and both New York and Buffalo are 1-3. All three of these teams have been hit hard by injury, and of the three, the Patriots might be the only squad that can still realistically garner playoff expectations.

Miami now has a chance to increase their lead and improve their divisional record to 1-1 when they travel to Buffalo to play the Bills next Sunday. They will be facing a team that is having serious quarterback issues and cannot stop the run. This is a game that Miami should win.

The Dolphins have suddenly been thrust into a position to succeed. It will be up to Nick Saban and his players to step up and take advantage of this most unlikely of opportunities.
