The Miami Dolphins possess an adequate group of wide receivers, but the addition of Anquan Boldin would instantly upgrade a relatively young corps of pass catchers. Boldin, a Florida native and current Arizona Cardinals star, recently went on record in stating his approval of playing next season in Miami.

Boldin is a six-year NFL veteran who has already reached the Pro Bowl on three different occasions. In total, he’s compiled 502 receptions for nearly 6,500 yards and 40 touchdowns. The one knock on Boldin up to this point in his career has been his inability to stay healthy. Boldin has missed eight games in the last two seasons and has played a full 16-game season just twice.

As of now, Ted Ginn Jr. and Greg Camarillo are slotted as Miami’s starting wide receivers, but that would change if a player with Boldin’s abilities is acquired. Additionally, Davone Bess is a rising talent but may not be a dependable receiving option just yet.

The Cardinals have been quiet about the recent happenings surrounding Boldin, but they could be positioning him for a trade come Draft Day. The former Florida State standout is open toward being shipped to Miami and apparently might even prefer the move.

Although this looks like a perfect match, there are several factors working against Boldin making the cross-country trip.

The Dolphins have proved that almost everyone on the current roster could be available for the right price. Offensive lineman Samson Satele was traded to the Oakland Raiders last month and more roster moves might be on the horizon. While Bill Parcells’ focus is mainly adding draft picks for the future, he may jump at the opportunity to acquire a tough and productive player like Boldin.

Additionally, Boldin has two years left on his contract and the Cardinals hold virtually all of the leverage in the negotiations. Arizona has already expressed it has more important roster issues at hand and will address Boldin’s situation when the time is right.

The Cardinals’ asking price will likely be a first- and third-round draft pick, a steep price to pay for a receiver with an injury-riddled past.

If anyone pays it, though, it should be Miami.
