Slow down on the Boldin talk

There has been a lot of scuttlebutt over Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin's recent comments regarding his interest in playing for the Miami Dolphins. Boldin told ESPN 760 he would love to play in Florida and a lot of Dolphins fans ran with it, assuming that Boldin meant he wants to join their team. Boldin clarified that there are three teams in Florida, so Miami isn't automatically the top choice.

When you think about it, all three Florida teams could use a receiver like Boldin. Heck, every team in the NFL could use Boldin, but Jacksonville -- desperate for a No. 1 receiver -- is in the same boat as Miami. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, doesn't know if it can rely on Antonio Bryant. Given the Buccaneers' shaky quarterback situation, though, it's unlikely Boldin would want to play there.

As for the Dolphins, to surrender the 25th pick in this year's draft for Boldin -- if Arizona is even shopping him -- would be sensible. Boldin would give QB Chad Pennington an elite No. 1 target, and he would take pressure off Miami's other wideouts -- namely, Ted Ginn Jr.

For now, however, the Boldin-to-Miami talk should be extinguished for two reasons.

First, the Cardinals have already made it clear that they are going to try to do everything in their power to keep the Pro Bowl receiver (remember, he's still under contract). They're right to do so, as Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are the best receiving duo in the sport.

Second, no receiver gets to make demands for a trade and have it come through. Look at Chad Johnson, who did everything but club Carson Palmer's healthy knee to get out of Cincinnati but remains a Bengal. Unless you're Jay Cutler or another stud quarterback, you aren't in a position to make demands.

So, while Miami and Boldin would be a heck of a pair, don't get your hopes up, Dolphins fans.
