Allen could be in trouble in Miami

The Miami Dolphins were one of the worst teams in the NFL at pass defense last season, giving up 227.8 yards per game en route to a 25th-place ranking. As a result, the team's brain trust addressed the secondary in the draft. New additions mean the cupboard is overflowing in Miami's defensive backfield, which means someone has to go. That someone is Jason Allen.

Now that Vontae Davis, Sean Smith and Eric Green have been added to the team, Allen has a target on his back. He's fought through injuries and now has to battle younger and more talented corners for his spot.

Any way you look at it, Allen has not lived up to his contract or the 16th spot he was chosen at in 2006. Allen might be able to stay around because of his versatility, and could be a backup to Gibril Wilson. As of now, he's a fourth-string corner.

Allen's name still has buzz, so the Dolphins could always look at trading him for a pick. But if they were going to do that, why didn't they during last weekend's draft? There are always teams looking for depth at cornerback and foolish enough to believe they can turn around a lackluster career of a player who got by on athleticism in college.

Green isn't a stud, but he has a cheaper contract than Allen. If the Dolphins are looking to to drop salary, they will drop Allen.
