Barring injury, it's more or less a foregone conclusion that Pro Bowler Will Allen will be one of Miami's starting cornerbacks when the Miami Dolphins kick off the 2009 regular season. However, nobody is really sure who will start opposite Allen. Four-year veteran Eric Green was brought in from Arizona, presumable to assume that starting role, but the play of rookies Vontae Davis and Sean Smith (as well as their high draft status) suggests that coach Sparano will opt for youth over experience.

So the question is, which one will end up starting? Davis or Smith?

Early on, Smith has been the more impressive of the two. His long body and best of breed ball skills have made an impression on coaches and players alike, as evidenced by his show-stopping interception on a deep throw to Ronnie Brown during Saturday's team scrimmage. However, Davis has also flashed his athleticism at times, although he was burnt by fellow rookie Brian Hartline during Miami's scrimmage.

It's hard to say at this juncture, but I'm leaning towards Smith. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Davis gets his fair share of snaps, because I believe that he will beat out Green and earn nickel back honors.
