The Miami Dolphins were forced to go in the second half without starting quarterback Gus Frerotte, who injured the index finger on his right (throwing) hand. Frerotte had been sharp in the first quarter, but failed to generate any momentum as the New York Jets rallied to even things up in the second quarter.

With the score tied at 10-10, Sage Rosenfels stepped in to begin the third quarter. Rosenfels came out flat and made some poor throws into the ground. He came out of his stupor in the fourth quarter, eerily reminiscent of the game a couple of weeks ago against the Buffalo Bills. It all began with a nice seam pass into zone coverage. Rosenfels hit Wes Welker in stride before he stepped out of bounds on the right sideline surrounded by three Jets' defenders.

Later in the drive, Sage showed some surprising agility for a 6'4" QB. He recognized there was a gaping running lane down the middle of the field and took advantage of the situation with his legs. This heads-up play featured Rosenfels outrunning opposing defenders before a perfect slide after crossing the first down marker.

After Ricky Williams ran off left tackle for a 23 yard scamper, Rosenfels came right back on the field and nailed Marty Booker in stride on a deep throw. Booker was able to piroutte his way into the endzone to complete the 50 yard score. That is some serious quarterbacking and ought to earn Sage a shot the rest of this season.

Granted, he wasn't perfect the entire second half. Rosenfels failed to muster any production on a crucial drive to kill the clock late in the fourth quarter.

He still hasn't faced a defense on the level of the New England Patriots. However, Sage deserves a shot after his impressive showings in the month of December. How else will the team find out if he's meant to be the quarterback of the future?
