The Miami Dolphins made tremendous strides on offense in 2005. Here's just a quick checklist of pleasant surprises that manifested themselves:

-The emergence of Ronnie Brown and the return of Ricky Williams morphed our running game from a liability to a pillar of strength.

-The team came within a few yards of having its first 3,000 yard passer since Dan Marino retired.

-Chris Chambers went from a "decent" receiver to a legitimate Pro Bowler.

-The offensive line finally became a cohesive unit that could run-block, pass-protect, and avoid costly penalties on a consistent basis.

As a result of these and other positive developments, the Miami Dolphins improved in every major statistical offensive category when compared to the 2004 campaign. They jumped from 29th to 14th in total offense, their scoring offense jumped from 27th to 16th, and the passing offense jumped from 21st to 16th.

However, their most drastic improvement came in the running game where the tough, explosive running of Williams and Brown helped the Dolphins jump from second to last to 12th in the NFL in terms of rushing offense. That is no small leap. Miami went from one of the worst to one of the best virtually overnight.

Hopefully, the imminent departure of offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will not affect this unit. With a little luck and an infusion of talent this offense should be able to go from decent to elite in '06.
