Although it hasn't been made official, various league sources have confirmed that current Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will be the new head coach of the St. Louis Rams. A press conference is expected in the coming days.

Linehan, who is only a 4th year coordinator in the NFL, has had tremendous success with his offensive schemes in both Minnesota and Miami. This past year he turned around a Dolphins unit that was one of the absolute worst in the league and made them one of the more balanced and formidable offenses in the league.

Now Nick Saban must scramble to find an adequate replacement, and he may very well look within to fill this need. Two likely candidates are wide receivers coach Charlie Baggett or quarterbacks coach Jason Garrett.

Baggett is has nine years of NFL coaching experience and has worked with Linehan for several years, so he has a clear understanding of the existing offensive system. However, he has never been a coordinator at the NFL level.

Garrett has only one year of coaching experience, but he is well respected for his offensive mind.

Another candidate might be Jumbo Fisher. He served as Saban's offensive coordinator at LSU, and though he stayed behind last year when Saban made his jump to the NFL, he may reconsider this time around.

Unfortunately, I feel that regardless of who the Miami Dolphins bring in, it will be a downgrade. Linehan has proven himself to be one of the brightest young offensive minds in the league.
