Who should the Miami Dolphins take with the #2 pick in the 2005 NFL draft? This is the million dollar question here in Miami. Should we take a quarterback just in case the upstart A.J. Feeley doesn't work out? Should we take a running back to help bring some respectability to our ground game? Should we bring in a wide receiver to take our passing game to the next level? Maybe we should just trade down (if possible) and acquire and extra pick later in the draft.

It seems like the only "sure thing" is that the Miami Dolphins will draft an offensive player with their first pick, although to be fair, we thought the same thing in 2002 and 2003 only to see our organization go for defense instead. Assuming that we stick with the prevailing line of thought and pick an offensive player, who should Nick Saban go for with that precious #2 pick? Here's a list of usual suspects and the pros and cons associated with them:

QB Aaron Rogers- The California signal caller should be gone by the time the Miami Dolphins come to the podium. However, there are rumors floating around that San Francisco may decide to snatch Alex Smith with the first pick overall. The guy has a rocket for an arm, and almost led his team to victory over the juggernauts over at USC last season. He should be a solid NFL starter.

QB Alex Smith- He's mobile and has above average arm strength, and he was a proven winner at the college level. However, he played in a 2nd tier conference so I'm not sure that he can compete at the highest of levels. His workouts have been impressive, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the dud of the 2005 draft.

RB Ronnie Brown- He comes off as a monster of a back with a combination of size, speed, and good hands. He shared snaps at Auburn, so he has less wear and tear than most backs entering the NFL, but his lack of elusiveness is a bit of a concern. Great NFL backs must be able to make people miss in order to stay healthy and sustain a high level of excellence. I'm not sure that he has what it takes, but at the same time I wouldn't be upset if he ends up in a Dolphins uniform. He's definitely the "safe" pick.

WR Braylon Edwards- Many are saying that he will be the best player, regardless of position, available when the Miami Dolphins get on the clock. He has tremendous hands, decent speed, and a huge frame. The Dolphins could end up having a top 5 passing attack if they bring him in to work alongside Randy McMichael, Chris Chambers, and Marty Booker.

WR Mike Williams- Why not? Everybody is down on this guy because he was forced to take a year off and only ran a 4.6 forty yard dash. I've got a news flash for everyone: Jerry Rice also ran a 4.6 coming out of college! Keep in mind that this guy was slotted as a top 5 pick in last year's draft, which had a hell of a lot more talent than this year does. NFL scouts must have a short memory. This native son of Florida is definitely the dark horse, but I would be more than happy to see him suit up in a Miami Dolphins uniform.
