As most know by now, Joey Harrington is on his way out of Miami after just one season with the team. And while the Dolphins' decidedly disappointing 6-10 season can't be entirely blamed on the former third overall pick, it is safe to say at this point that Harrington is not the long-term answer at quarterback.

Harrington is, however, a likable guy, as evidenced by his recent humanitarian effort to aid a young family that fell victim to theft in his native Oregon. Therefore, this writer felt the need to honor Harrington's character by composing an original song to herald his departure from South Florida:

Ode to Joey Harrington
Oh, Joey,
The rumors are true
Your days as a Miami Dolphin are numbered.

Oh, Joey,
Your college nickname was "Heisman"
But in Detroit, it was "Horrible"
In Miami, it was "Has-been"
Pray tell, when will the alliteration come to an end?

Oh, Joey,
I hope you land softly
And someday return to the glories of your youth
On the way, learning to avoid
Hitting defenders in between the numbers.

Oh, Joey,
You were 5-6 as a starter
And your outings weren't all half bad
If we string together a quarter here and there
We could put together a Pro Bowl campaign
But, unfortunately,
Quarterback play can't be pieced together
From one game to another
And as your 68.2 passer rating gives testament
Your lack of consistency was ultimately to blame.

Joey Harrington,
You're a good man
You recently gave a family in need a helping hand
But on the field
Your 12 touchdowns to 15 interceptions
Was simply not enough to make amends
And though it wasn't all your fault
The buck always stops at quarterback
So into the free-agent market you go
To test your value once again

I said, to test your value once again.
