ESPN's Len Pasquarelli is reporting that the Dolphins have shipped Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain to the Kansas City Chiefs for their 2005 second round draft pick. The teams also exchanged this year's fifth round draft choices.

The deal won't be complete until Surtain passes a physical exam. All parameters of the trade, including a new contract for Surtain, have been agreed upon in principle.

Surtain joined Miami in 1998 out of the University of Southern Mississippi. He began as a nickelback and eventually joined the starting rotation with Sam Madison. Patrick made the Pro Bowl 3 times in 7 years with the ballclub.

The cornerback had 4 interceptions and 7 pass breakups last season. He has 29 INTs and 57 passes deflected in his career.
