Is Green really worth the wait for Miami?

The comical Trent Green fiasco resurfaced on the national stage this week when the veteran Chiefs quarterback expressed his frustration to the media over his continued state of purgatory in Kansas City. In an effort to fulfill his contract obligations and force his soon-to-be-old team's hand, Green has been attending Chiefs training camp despite the fact that he has no intentions of playing with them this year.

The Chiefs have made it clear to Green that either newly re-signed veteran Damon Huard or second-year prospect Brodie Croyle will lead the team under center.

On his status with the Chiefs, Green said, "I'm still holding out hope that a deal gets done. That's what's been expressed from all parties involved."

The Chiefs and Miami Dolphins -- Green's most likely suitor -- have been quarrelling for months over whether the signal-caller is worth a fourth- or sixth-round pick.

Green wants to be in Miami because he views the Dolphins as his best and probably last opportunity to start. He is banking on his familiarity with the offense and his past relationships with head coach Cam Cameron and quarterbacks coach Terry Shea to secure him the job. It is assumed that Cameron and Shea would welcome Green with open arms. If that's truly the case, why allow this circus to drag on? Every moment Green spends in Kansas City's training camp detracts from the Dolphins' ability to fully prepare for the upcoming season.

When one reflects on Green's performance in last year's playoff loss to the Colts and the condition of his aging body, the question must be asked: Is Green really worth the wait?

Opinion will likely vary depending on how fans value the Dolphins' current crop of quarterbacks. Daunte Culpepper's health is still in question. Rookie John Beck is mature but unproven. And when it comes to Cleo Lemon, well, let's just say that he's a lemon.

So the Dolphins need Green, right?

There is only one scenario where adding Green is worthwhile, and that includes the Dolphins making him this year's Kerry Collins (who started three games for the Titans in 2006 before Vince Young took over). Bring him in solely for the purpose of providing Beck an experienced veteran to dethrone as the No. 1 QB.

Beck, a former BYU star, might not have the athletic ability of Young, but he is certainly a much more accurate and polished passer. The Dolphins will never reach the Promised Land with Green as their quarterback, but the same cannot be said about Beck. Outside of using Green as a quick, easily replaceable transition to Beck, his impending arrival in Miami should be canceled.

Either way, a decision has to be made now. The Dolphins should either pony up the draft pick or roll with the horses they have. The longer the Green situation goes unresolved, the more it destabilizes Miami's ability to prepare for the 2007 campaign.

Hell no, he is not worth it. Why does Cameron not start Culpepper? I guess if he gets hurt again, it is safe to say he is done,...

Green is not worth trading for. Wait until he gets cut, and let him fight it out with Daunte. I think Daunte will win. Also, I do...
