This weekend's Miami Dolphins mini-camp offered up an opportunity for some unproven youngsters to show their worth and take their first step towards making the opening day roster. Proven college players such as Brock Berlin, Kevin Beard, and Kay Jay Harris took the field and worked out in front of Nick Saban and the rest of the Dolphins coaching staff.

Although Saban says that these first few mini-camps are more about teaching then evaluating, you can be sure that for the undrafted free agents and try out players every snap and every repetition was a tryout.

Brock Berlin, the former UF and UM quarterback was probably the most well known free agent that took the field, but he wasn't the only well known college player to take the field. Players like former standout Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Kevin Beard were also out there trying to make an impression. Beard has the speed and the hands to play in the NFL, but he needs to show some durability, because injuries plagued his collegiate career.

Of all the players that came out for this mini-camp, Kay Jay Harris definitely had the biggest chip on his shoulder. Actually, he was quoted as saying that he had two chips on his shoulders; one one each. He was an extremely solid running back at West Virginia and was expected to be drafted in the middle rounds of this year's draft, but somehow went undrafted and was signed by the Miami Dolphins as a free agent. Harris plans on making a big impression both in special teams and in the backfield, and I for one, believe him.
