Jim Brown, former NFL running back and Hall of Famer, said it might be time for Ricky Williams to return to the Dolphins.

Brown, kicking off a South Florida fundraiser for his Amer-I-Can program, spoke on a variety of subjects Thursday morning at Levinson Jewelers in Plantation, including Ricky Williams.

After extolling the virtues of his charitable work with at-risk youth, Brown spoke about Williams' possible return to football.

"It's up to Ricky. If he decides to do what is correct as far as the league is concerned, I'm sure he would be welcomed back," Brown said. "All of us would love to see him play a few more years."

"We all want to be a free spirit, and we all have the right to be just that," Brown said. "But there is a responsibility with that as well. If you have children, then you have to live up to those responsibilities. If Ricky can handle all of that and not play, great.

"But it seems to me if he has the desire to play again, he is very fortunate there are supportive people there."

Brown also said Williams shouldn't worry about how teammates would treat him if he returns.

"His teammates will have to deal with him. There are teammates who deal with [Terrell Owens] and Randy Moss," Brown said.

"This is a day and age of individuals. If Ricky dedicates himself to the team, his teammates have to dedicate themselves to Ricky. We can all make choices but sometimes we have to pay the price."

The Right Way?
Dolphins coach Nick Saban, whom Brown has known since Saban was named Cleveland's defensive coordinator in 1991, has said Williams would be welcomed back. Brown said Saban has handled the Williams situation well.

"He's been brilliant in his dealings with Ricky," Brown said. "He's put it out there the right way, and that's good for Ricky. He has left the door open, and he's being a human being while still being a coach and a businessman. [Saban's] pretty slick, so I give him all the credit in the world."

Final Thoughts
Ricky's actions have made him unreliable in the eyes of teammates and fans throughout South Florida. However, Ricky's God given talent to run the football keeps him afloat in the back of everyone's mind. So what if Ricky comes back? Will we see a starter in Williams and a solid back up in first round draft pick Ronnie Brown?

Sounds like Auburn all over again.
