It's probably fair to say that being a fan of the Miami Dolphins has been anything but easy over the past few years. Not only have Miami's loyalists suffered through a playoff drought, they've also witnessed the hated AFC East rival New England Patriots win three Super Bowls.

This is the preseason, however, a time for optimism even for the most pessimistic of fans. As the 2007 NFL regular season rapidly approaches, here is a list of 10 things Dolphins fans have to look forward to this upcoming season.

10. The offensive line - As bad as the O-line has been during the past few seasons, it can't get much worse. Youngsters Anthony Alabi, Drew Mormino and Samson Satele all but promise that improvement for the group is just around the corner.

9. Ronnie Brown's emergence? - The third year is typically the one when players boom or bust. Given that Brown improved on his rookie numbers last year, and remembering what Cam Cameron did for LaDainian Tomlinson's career, this very well could be a standout season for No. 23.

8. The beginning of the John Beck era - If Trent Green fails as the starting quarterback, the silver lining will be that the Beck era will kick off sooner than expected. That's good news long term for Dolphins fans.

7. The defensive line - Keith Traylor, Paul Soliai, Rodrique Wright and Vonnie Holliday should form a solid defensive tackle rotation. If Matt Roth can build on last year's success, he and Jason Taylor will wind up being one of the best defensive end combos in the league. There's a lot to be excited about along the line.

6. Ted Ginn returning kicks - Is he the next Dante Hall or Devin Hester? That will be found out soon enough, but if so he'll give the Dolphins a huge shot in the arm.

5. Jason Taylor - One of the few perennial blessings that Dolphins can count on, and one of the most entertaining players in the entire league. Forget that retirement talk -- Taylor, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, will enjoy another brilliant season in '07.

4. The wide receiver battle - Competition breeds success. That being said, the Dolphins, for the first time in years, have all kinds of talent at receiver. Chris Chambers, Ginn and Marty Booker should all be reliable targets for Green. Meanwhile, unheralded wideouts like David Sutton and Derek Hagan competing for playing time is also an interesting subplot.

3. The revamped LB corps - Channing Crowder, Joey Porter and Zach Thomas promise to be among the best linebacking groups in the NFL. Porter is always entertaining, and fans need to remember to enjoy Thomas as his career starts to wind down.

2. The new head coach - Not only do the players now have a coach they don't despise, it's starting to feel as if they really like Cam Cameron. That's a big breath of fresh air considering how the players reacted to ex-head coach Nick Saban during the past couple of seasons.

1. A QB with some pedigree - It's hard to believe, but the Dolphins actually have a QB who has both some pedigree and his health. Sure, Daunte Culpepper was a stud before his arrival in South Florida, but he was damaged goods by the time he donned the aqua and orange. Green's head trauma isn't an issue, and he is familiar with Cameron's system. Because of his Pro Bowl resume, it's difficult not to expect at least very solid play from Green. Given the post-Dan Marino history of Dolphins QBs, it doesn't get much more exciting than that for Miami's fans.

It is AQUA and Orange. Teal is for the Marlins and Jags. (Editor's note: Agreed and thanks for the feedback. -- Alex Guzman)
