I can come up with at least two good reasons why we shouldn't sign Ty Law. It's nothing personal, Ty. I know that you are flirting with Hall of Fame status, and I can look past the fact that you have played your entire career for a team that I absolutely despise. My problems with you are manifested by the general manager in me:

1) Foot injuries like that Ty Law suffers from often end careers. Two players that come to mind are former Miami Dolphins O.J. McDuffie and future Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Now I know that their injuries were a bit different (both had toe injuries), but the fact remains that foot injuries can linger on and bring a solid veteran's career to a sudden grinding halt.

2) Ty Law is represented by the Poston brothers who are notorious for securing high priced contracts. The Dolphins cannot afford to sign free agents that demand much more than the veteran minimum. Up until this point Nick Saban has been smart with his free agent money, signing solid veterans that are willing to pay for modest one year contracts. Law might be willing to sign a one year contract, but I doubt that his contract will be "modest".

The last thing that Miami Dolphins need at this point is a pricey free agent languishing on the sidelines with a lingering foot injury.
