Miami Dolphin's cornerback Will Poole underwent successful surgery on Monday. Doctors repaired the medial meniscus and reconstructed the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Poole, a potential starter who was injured during a minicamp practice two weeks ago, could miss the entire 2005 season.

The Dolphins figure to have Mario Edwards, Reggie Howard and rookie Travis Daniels compete for that starting spot now.

Poole is expected to start the regular season on the Dolphins' reserve/physically unable to perform list. That will give the Dolphins until roughly the middle of the season to decide whether to activate Poole to the 53-man roster or keep him on PUP for the entire year.
