Ricky Returning to the Dolphins in July?

The news is slowly filtering into the mainstream; Ricky Williams will return to the Miami Dolphins in July. What was once simply a murmuring rumor is now about to become a "firestorm" according to several local journalists and media personalities.

Dan Le Batard asserted that Ricky Williams would most likely return to the Dolphins in July while hosting his afternoon radio talk show on 790 AM "The Ticket". He also went as far as to invite Miami Herald columnist Jason Cole to confirm these assertions. Le Batard who is also a Herald columnist, and also appears on ESPN's "The Court Reporters", discussed the various scenarios that would pave the way for Ricky Williams' return. He and Jason Cole both alluded to the fact that Nick Saban has been regularly contacting Williams since joining the organization. They also mentioned that the Miami Dolphins head coach contacted Williams after the troubled running back returned from his recent trip to India, and that he has stated on several occasions that having two good running backs is better than having just one.

Le Batard also mentioned that fellow radio personality and television broadcaster Joe Rose will have Nick Saban on his morning talk show today (also on 790 AM), presumably to discuss the Ricky Williams situation. Le Batard intimated that he has purposely removed himself from coverage of the Ricky Williams saga for the Miami Herald because his personal ties to the running back created a conflict of interest and compromised his journalistic integrity with regards to this story.

The return of Ricky Williams would cause quite a bit of controversy here in Miami. Most Dolphins fans felt betrayed by the Pro Bowl running back after he decided to retire from the league one week before training camp opened. Some fans went as far as to destroy Williams paraphernalia and burn his jersey in effigy.
