The Ricky Equation

I'm having a tough time figuring out the Ricky equation. On the one hand, Ricky Williams, when right, is a top five NFL back who can help ease the load for our #2 overall pick Ronnie Brown. On the other hand, allowing a guy to return to the team after he sold out his teammates and his organization down by quitting just a few days before the start of training camp sends the wrong message (that all is forgiven as long as you have talent).

A question that one must ask is what is motivating Ricky Williams to return? Is it because of a renewed passion for the game, or is it because he is in need of money and can't afford to pay back the millions of dollars that he owes the Miami Dolpins?

Also, exactly how effective will Williams be? He's lost roughly 40 pounds and hasn't dealt with the full contact nature of the NFL for over a year. Is he the Ricky Williams that rushed for over 1800 yards or is he now a more vulnerable running back who won't be able to cope with the beating that running backs must absorb?

Another important question is how Ricky's presence will affect Ronnie Brown. I have a hard time believing that bringing back a troubled running back is much of a confidence booster for the #2 pick overall. Can Ricky help Ronnie become a better NFL running back, or will Ronnie suffer the adverse side affects of a "running back controversy"?

Lastly, how are the veterans on the team dealing with this? I know that they are saying all of the right things to the media, but I wonder if privately they are questioning the motives and ethics of their new head coach. Ricky Williams ruined one of their "twilight" seasons by disappearing into a cloud of weed smoke, and now they are expect to accept him with open arms? That seems like a hard pill to swallow for the elder members of the Miami Dolphins.

I tell you, this Ricky equation is tough to figure out. I guess that time will make the answers seem clearer.
