It's June 1st and David Bowens still finds himself a member of the Miami Dolphins, but that status is uncertain according to various sources. An NFL network report insinuated that the Miami Dolphins are likely to part ways with the veteran defensive tackle. Several other print sources have also asserted that Bowens may be cut in this second wave of free agency.

If David Bowens is cut, it won't be because of major salary cap concerns. Cutting Bowens at this point would not significantly reduce the Dolphins salary cap number for this year. I believe that such a move would be more of a "change of direction" by the Dolphins coaching staff who has already brought in two bulkier 3-4 oriented defensive ends in Kevin Carter and Vonnie Holiday.

Bowens showed promise early on in his career, but injuries have slowed him down and made him a marginal contributor to the Miami Dolphins defense over the past four seasons. However, he is coming off what is by far his best season, tallying seven sacks and 41 total tackles.
