Rick Spielman has left the building! He has resigned from his post as general manager for the Miami Dolphins. Spielman spent five seasons as general manager. He was heavily criticized by both fans and the media based on questionable free-agent acquisitions, certain ill-fated draft picks, and a questionable trade that brought upstart A.J. Feeley in exchange for a valuable second round pick.

Although Rick Spielman did make some solid moves as head of personnel, like helping to bring in Chris Chambers and Randy McMichael, he was one of the leading scapegoats for the team recent woes. Only former head coach Dave Wannstedt drew more ire from the fan base and media. His resignation will most certainly help bring a measure of closure and cements the end of the "Wannstedt era".

Coach Saban had some kind words for the departing Rick Spielman in a press conference earlier today. According to published reports, he was quoted as saying that “The Dolphins organization appreciates the contributions Rick made to the club during his tenure here. I want to thank him for all of his assistance during the time that we worked together and wish him the best of success in the future.”

Most fans however will be more happy to show him the door and hasten his exit from the South Florida football landscape.
