A group in charge of overseeing minority hiring practices in the NFL is accusing the Miami Dolphins of improper hiring practices in relation to the addition new GM Randy Mueller. John Wooten, Chairman of the Fritz Pollard alliance was quoted by the Washington Post as saying that, "What they've done is insulted us and insulted the [league's] diversity committee with these kinds of shenanigans. What we're saying to the commissioner and to the NFL is, 'Put some teeth in these guidelines.' If I sound like I'm [mad], it's because I am."

The Miami Dolphins have countered these allegations by asserting that they hired Randy Mueller based on information gathered when searching for a GM following the 2003 season, when the Dolphins interviewed several minority candidates.

It remains to be seen if the Miami Dolphins will be punished by the NFL in any way based on this questionable hiring process. While it is true that they did not interview any new candidates for the position this year (black or white), I am not sure that their excuse (using last year's interview data) will stick.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for the hiring of Randy Mueller because I think he is the best candidate for the job. I just think that the protocol that they used might land them in hot water.
