It's a truly sad day in Dolphin land. My favorite Miami Dolphins player has taken the first step towards announcing his retirement. Tim "Timbo" Bowens has been waived by the team. According to Nick Saban, the physically dominant defensive tackle approached the head coach about wanting to retire as a Miami Dolphin. The move to waive him is apparently a procedural step that will facilitate the retirement process.

The usually quiet Tim Bowens was quoted as saying, "I am grateful to the Dolphins for all the years I have been able to play in Miami. I appreciate all of the support I have received throughout my career from the fans, from my teammates and coaches, and from the rest of the Dolphins organization. It will be exciting to remain a part of the team in my new role as a member of the Dolphins alumni."

Bowens is considered to be one of the most consistent and dominant run stopping defensive tackles of his era. He was also the last active Miami Dolphins player from the Don Shula era. Most importantly, Bowens will be greatly missed by the fans as well as Dolphins linebackers like Zach Thomas, who benefited greatly from this quiet giant's uncanny ability to stop the run and plug up the line of scrimmage.

Good luck in all of your future ventures Timbo. We love you and we'll miss you...
