Wide receiver David Boston says that he's finally healthy and has regained the confidence that made him a Pro Bowl player for the Arizona Cardinals in 2001. That year he caught 98 passes for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns. That's the kind of production the Miami Dolphins were hoping to get when they traded a 2005 6th round draft choice and CB Jamar Fletcher to the San Diego Chargers in 2004.

Instead the 6-2, 228 pound wide receiver missed the season after rupturing his left patellar tendon during a non-contact scrimmage with the Houston Texans on August 6, 2004. Shortly thereafter, Boston was arrested in an altercation in an airport in Vermont. The simple-assault charge was later reduced to a misdemeanor. As in a seemingly domino effect, Boston was then suspended for the final four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy when he tested positive for steroids.

For now, David Boston, once considered a volatile and almost unmanageable player, seems to have taken his off-season turmoil to heart. Over the past three days Boston has caught the attention of Coach Nick Saban who has said that the wide receiver has seemed faster and is playing with a lot of confidence. To stay healthy, Boston has been stretching and warming up more than he used to before practice. He says that he still feels like the same player who was a deep-threat receiver early in his career while playing for the Cardinals.

So far in training camp, David Boston is competing with Derrius Thompson for the third receiver position behind Chris Chambers and Marty Booker. Boston says he's not concerned about getting a starting position and is excited about the prospects of a revised passing attack from first year offensive coordinator Scott Linehan.

With the past behind him, Boston just wants to go out and practice hard and make the coaching staff take notice. As of now, they've noticed, and only time will tell whether the hard work will pay off.
