Those Dolfans anxiously awaiting the arrival of 2005 #2 overall pick Ronnie Brown at Miami Dolphins training camp, will have to wait a bit longer. The Dolphins and Ronnie Brown's agent Todd France are still apart on the amount of guaranteed money, approximately $3 million apart. Sources indicate that the Miami Dolphins are offering Brown about $19 million in guarantees. Using the $24 million contract that #1 pick Alex Smith received from the San Francisco 49ers, Brown is seeking about $22 million in guaranteed money.

Smith's deal is an increase of 20 percent from the #1 pick of the 2004 draft, Eli Manning. Last year's #2 pick, Robert Gallery, received $18.3 million. Adding the 20 percent increase would put Brown's worth at a little less than $22 million. To make matters more difficult for the Miami Dolphins is the contract of the #5 pick of this year's draft, “Cadillac” Williams. Brown's former teammate and co-starter at Auburn signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for about $15.1 million in guarantees and easily attainable incentives, an increase of 15 percent. What the Dolphins are offering Ronnie Brown is about a 5 percent increase.

The Miami Dolphins have never paid a player more than $10 million in guaranteed money, but they've never had the #2 overall pick either. Hopefully, Dolphins management and Todd France will reach an agreement soon allowing Brown to get some practice before the August 8 Hall of Fame game versus the Chicago Bears.
